Hypnobirthing Hypnobirthing is, simply put, the complete tool kit for working with your body to birth your baby.
For many of us, the birth of our child will be the only time we enter a medical establishment when there is absolutely nothing wrong with us (unless we are there to visit someone else)! We are predisposed to the role of patient and the idea that we are there to be treated and often our care givers, with our best interests at heart, are prone to this model too.
Birth is different.
For a healthy woman, carrying a healthy baby, the role of our birthing professionals is like that of the life guard at a swimming pool. We all want to see a lifeguard at the beach or swimming pool we attend, their presence is reassuring and we feel safe knowing that they are watching over us dutifully, on hand if they are needed. I don’t know about you, but when I go swimming, I don’t actually anticipate that I will need a life guard. I know how to swim and consider it unlikely I will get into any difficulties.
It would really put me off my stride if the lifeguard suddenly leapt in and started ‘helping’ me to move my arms whilst I was doing the front crawl!
Similarly, we should expect that the birthing mum, her body and her baby are proficient at birth. The role of birthing professionals and of her partner is to patiently and lovingly watch over her and only intervene where there is a true need.

Hypnosis can assist with the turn of a breech baby in a number of ways. The deep relaxation achieved in hypnosis allows the muscles in the uterus to relax which, in turn, provides the baby with more room to turn in.
Visualisation can also be an extremely powerful tool to use, imagining the baby turning whilst the body is deeply relaxed sends a powerful and direct message to your body and your baby.
Fear and anxiety create tension in our bodies which is carried in our muscles. If a mum is scared or worried about birth or parenthood, they may literally be 'holding on' to their baby so releasing fear and anxiety through hypnotic techniques can enable you to relax the uterus, encouraging baby to turn naturally.
Through a combination of positioning, relaxation, visualisation and fear release, we can provide baby with room and encouragement to move into a helpful position for birth without discomfort to you or your baby.
Whilst a normal pregnancy can be anywhere between 37 and 42 weeks, there is a lot of pressure on women to go into labour by their due date (40 weeks). It is always better to avoid chemical induction unless there is a compelling reason to intervene.
Through hypnosis, we can encourage labour to begin by communicating with your unconscious mind, body and baby. If you are relaxed and confident then your body will know it is safe to release your baby and allow labour to advance.
Fear and anxiety can cause tension in your body which inhibits your birthing muscles, as well as the production of crucial hormones for birth.
Through a combination of visualization, relaxation and fear release, this session will enable you to let go of any tensions, doubts, worries or fear of childbirth and at the same time trigger your natural relaxation response, causing wonderful waves of endorphins and, crucially, oxytocin (that wonderful hormone of love, responsible for triggering your surges).
